Allow me to get sappy for a minute... I've been a published author for exactly two month and five days. Sharing Colin and Charlie with you has been a life long and very scary dream. Imagine posting a picture of your child on the Internet and asking complete strangers to give you their honest opinions about his or her appearance. That's essentially what authors do.
